Eli Thompson

Thompson joins Ohio as one of coach John Hauser's most productive imports, and the numbers back that up. He posted 47 total tackles, including 5.5 for loss, picked off four passes and added a sack last season at Holy Cross. Ohio won 40 games over the previous four years under Hauser's predecessor, and Hauser inherits both that standard and Thompson's ballhawking presence in the secondary to help defend it. Nebraska brings in a senior transfer quarterback who is still unproven in Lincoln, and a secondary that already produced four interceptions a year ago gives Ohio a real chance to make that debut uncomfortable.

Anthony Colandrea

Nebraska's quarterback picture is unsettled entering the opener, but Colandrea, a senior, is the most experienced name in the room and the leading candidate to open the season under center. Coach Matt Rhule has won at least seven games in each of his two seasons in Lincoln but still has not beaten a ranked opponent, extending a streak that has reached 29 straight losses to AP top 25 teams. Whoever starts at quarterback will face an Ohio defense that already produced four interceptions and 5.5 tackles for loss from Eli Thompson alone last season.
