Russian Missile Barrage Kills At Least Eight Across Ukraine

Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone attack across Ukraine on the night of July 29-30, killing at least eight people, including two children, and injuring at least 30 others in strikes that hit Kyiv, Lviv, Kryvyi Rih and Poltava Oblast.

The attacks came just hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Moscow appeared to be preparing another massive aerial assault. Air raid alerts were issued nationwide as Ukraine's Air Force tracked ballistic and cruise missiles, along with hundreds of drones, targeting multiple regions from the country's center to its western border.

In Kyiv, a Russian missile strike killed one person and injured two others. According to Ukrainian authorities, a 31-year-old man died after a fire broke out at a garage cooperative in the city's Sviatoshynskyi district. Firefighters discovered his body while extinguishing the blaze. The two injured men, aged 30 and 53, were taken to the hospital.

Fires also erupted at a local market in Kyiv's Obolon district after falling debris struck the area, injuring another person. Residential buildings, warehouses, vehicles, market stalls and other civilian infrastructure were damaged across the capital as emergency crews, bomb disposal specialists and police continued working at the affected sites.

In Kyiv Oblast, three homes were damaged in Brovary, where five people, including one child, were reported injured.

The deadliest strike hit a village on the outskirts of Kryvyi Rih, where an Iskander-M ballistic missile struck the home of a large family. Ukrainian officials said two girls, aged five and 12, along with four adults, were killed. Eight others were injured, including boys aged six and 15, while rescue workers continued clearing debris amid fears the death toll could rise. Local authorities said the victims belonged to the Voronov family from the village of Radushne.

Lviv also suffered significant damage after missiles struck residential buildings. Officials said 15 people were injured, including a rescue worker, with 14 requiring hospitalization. Rescue operations remained underway as emergency crews and local residents searched through the rubble of a damaged apartment building where people were believed to be trapped.

In Poltava Oblast, one person was killed after a Russian strike hit a warehouse. A separate attack targeted a Nova Poshta terminal in the city of Poltava, though no casualties were reported there.

Explosions were also reported in Ivano-Frankivsk and other western regions as missiles crossed Ukrainian airspace. In neighboring Poland, the Air Force scrambled fighter jets to safeguard its airspace while temporary air raid alerts were activated near the border.

The latest assault followed a warning issued by President Zelensky earlier on July 29.

“The Russians prepared a massive attack several days ago, and there is a high probability that the strike will be carried out tonight. Please, in all regions of Ukraine, pay attention to air raid alerts today and take care of yourselves,” he said.

Thousands of Kyiv residents sought shelter in metro stations as the attack unfolded. The strike is the latest in a series of large-scale Russian bombardments that have increasingly relied on waves of ballistic missiles and drones to overwhelm Ukraine's air defenses.

The attacks came just days after Zelensky met US President Donald Trump in Washington to discuss additional Patriot missile interceptors and efforts to revive peace negotiations. Ukrainian officials have also been preparing new proposals with the United States, including a possible ceasefire covering aerial attacks, while Zelensky has argued that although Russia has lost momentum on the battlefield, President Vladimir Putin continues to reject a ceasefire.
