Former Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who is the leader of the until recently ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SPP), waited in line for an hour and a half to cast his vote at a polling station in "Novi Beograd" in the Serbian capital Belgrade.

Vucic was accompanied by his wife Tamara and while waiting, he talked on the phone to check on voter turnout.

From the early morning hours, Serbs lined up in front of polling stations even before they opened at 7 a.m. local time.

Activity is also high in the sections abroad, where, according to a government decision, voting is taking place according to Serbian time - a measure that observers described as an attempt to hinder voters' right to vote.

The Republican Election Commission announced that as of 11 a.m. local time, voter turnout had reached 27.3 percent, and at 9 a.m. it was 12 percent.
