Actors Mika Abdalla and Jake Short have ended their engagement. The update comes at a time when Abdalla is drawing fresh attention for her role as Allie in Prime Video’s Off Campus, with work on the second season already under way.

In a statement to Us Weekly, her representative said the two are no longer together but remain supportive of each other. The representative added that Abdalla and Short are still on friendly terms and have asked for privacy and respect.

Engagement ends

“Due to recent interest in Mika Abdalla’s personal life, it would feel remiss not to address that she and Jake Short are no longer together,” the representative told the publication. “They continue to support each other and remain on friendly terms, and kindly ask for privacy and respect.”

Abdalla and Short first met on the set of Sex Appeal in 2021 and later began dating. Four years after they met, their engagement was confirmed on Instagram.

Focus on Off Campus

The personal update has come as Abdalla remains in the spotlight because of her role in Off Campus. The second season of the Prime Video series is set to shift its focus to Allie and Dean, played by Stephen Kalyn.

Speaking to Us Weekly in May, Abdalla said the series had already begun building interest around the pair. “Even though we do tease Dean and Allie a lot earlier than people expect, you are still left wanting a lot more,” she said. “And that’s something I’m really excited about. You just want to see more.”

Abdalla said the team wanted to “stay true to a lot” of Allie and Dean’s love story. She explained that Allie and Hannah’s storylines are closely connected, which is why elements linked to them were introduced in the first season.

She also said she is looking forward to exploring the relationship in greater depth.

Meanwhile, actor Mahima Chaudhary said she has been receiving many messages from fans who believe her daughter, Arina Chaudhry, bears a strong resemblance to Abdalla.

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Mahima said she was aware of the comparisons and found them hard to miss. “Yeah, I know. I love her, she’s fantastic. How can people from two different continents have such an uncanny resemblance,” she said.

She added that some people had even asked whether Arina had already made her debut, and said the comparisons were “quite entertaining” and flattering.
