Jharkhand CID arrests four JSSC-CGL qualifiers in exam irregularities probe

Jharkhand CID has arrested four successful JSSC-CGL candidates in its exam irregularities probe. The action intensifies scrutiny of the stalled recruitment process amid the High Court stay.

The Jharkhand Police's Criminal Investigation Department on Friday arrested four successful candidates of the JSSC-CGL examination held in 2024 as part of its probe into alleged irregularities in the recruitment test. The arrests were made by a Special Investigation Team of the Jharkhand CID investigating the alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination-2023 conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.

The development comes amid continuing scrutiny of the recruitment process. The Jharkhand government had earlier announced the cancellation of several recruitment tests, including the JSSC-CGL-2023 conducted on September 21 and 22, 2024, following protests by job aspirants over the alleged irregularities.

However, the Jharkhand High Court later stayed the government's decision to cancel certain exams, including the JSSC-CGL-2023, on a plea by successful candidates who feared losing their jobs.

In a statement on Friday, the CID said, "In connection with alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination-2023 conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission, four successful candidates of the JSSC-CGL examination have been arrested."

The four have been identified as Deepak Kumar, Vijay Kumar Tiwari and Anand Kumar Singh, all residents of Dhanbad district, and Umesh Kumar Rai, who is currently staying in Bokaro.

The state probe agency had arrested two accused in the case a day earlier. It had also arrested the key accused, Abhay Tiwari, then posted as a block supply officer in Poriyahat in Godda district, on July 22. His wife Sushama Kumari and brother Akshay Tiwari were arrested on August 18.

With the latest arrests, the CID's probe into the alleged irregularities in the JSSC-CGL examination has widened further, even as the issue remains linked to the government's cancellation move and the High Court's stay on that decision.
