  • Grey market premium indicates 105% listing gain
  • Shares to credit on August 27, listing on August 28

The Tempsens Instruments IPO saw a massive bidding frenzy before it closed on August 24, with the 650-crore issue receiving bids for more than 184 times the shares on offer. Now, investors are waiting for the next crucial update: the Tempsens Instruments IPO allotment.

The allotment is expected to be finalised today, August 25.

For those who do receive shares, the grey market is currently pointing to a potentially bumper listing gain, with the latest Tempsens Instruments IPO GMP suggesting an estimated gain of more than 100%.

TEMPSENS INSTRUMENTS IPO GMP TODAY

The latest Tempsens Instruments IPO GMP stands at 317 per share as of 8:28 am on August 25.

The IPO had a price band of 285-300 per share. At the upper price band of 300, adding the current GMP of 317 gives an estimated listing price of 617 per share.

That translates into an indicative gain of 105.67% over the IPO price.

However, GMP is an unofficial indicator and does not guarantee the actual listing price. The stock could list at a price higher or lower than the GMP-implied estimate.

The scale of demand for the IPO has made allotment particularly difficult.

The Tempsens Instruments IPO was subscribed 184.22 times overall by the time bidding closed on August 24.

The category-wise subscription was:

Retail investors: 61 timesQIBs, excluding anchor investors: 302.88 timesNIIs: 314.44 timesOverall subscription: 184.22 times

The NII category saw the highest subscription, followed by the QIB portion. Even the retail portion received bids for 61 times the shares reserved for the category.

With demand so much higher than the number of shares available, applicants should not assume that submitting an application means they will receive shares.

HOW MUCH PROFIT CAN YOU MAKE FROM ONE LOT?

This is perhaps the biggest question for investors who applied for the IPO.

The minimum retail application was for one lot of 50 shares. At the upper price band of Rs 300, one lot cost Rs 15,000.

If the stock actually lists at the GMP-implied price of Rs 617, those 50 shares would be worth:

50 Rs 617 = Rs 30,850

The implied profit would therefore be:

Rs 30,850 - Rs15,000 = Rs15,850

So, if the current GMP translates into the actual listing price, an investor who gets just one lot could see a notional listing gain of around Rs 15,850.

That is equivalent to a gain of about 105.67% on the Rs 15,000 investment.

But this is only an estimate based on the current grey market premium. Investors should not treat Rs 15,850 as a guaranteed profit. The actual listing price will depend on market demand and supply when Tempsens Instruments starts trading on the NSE and BSE.

If shares are allotted, they are expected to be credited to investors' demat accounts on August 27.

For investors who do not receive an allotment, the amount blocked for the IPO is expected to be released around the same time.

The Tempsens Instruments shares are scheduled to list on both the NSE and BSE on August 28.
