Real Madrid have decided to fine Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni a staggering Rs 5,56,15,000 each (500,000 euros) after their bust-up on the training field. Tchouameni and Valverde, two of the senior players in the Real Madrid side, got into an ugly altercation ahead of the team's crucial match against Barcelona.

The Spanish giants confirmed the punishment in an official statement on Friday after both players appeared before the club's internal investigator. Madrid said that Valverde and Tchouameni had expressed "deep regret" over the incident and apologised to each other, the club, their teammates, coaching staff and supporters.

"Given these circumstances, Real Madrid has decided to impose a financial penalty of five hundred thousand euros on each player, thus concluding the corresponding internal procedures," the club said in its statement.

VALVERDE VS TCHOUAMENI: WHAT HAPPENED?

The altercation reportedly began during training earlier this week and later escalated inside the dressing room. According to multiple reports in Spanish media, a strong challenge during practice triggered the argument between the two midfielders, which quickly turned physical after the session ended.

During the confrontation, Valverde reportedly struck his head against a table in the dressing room after losing balance amid the scuffle. The Uruguayan midfielder was later taken to hospital for precautionary checks and was subsequently discharged.

Madrid had earlier confirmed that Valverde suffered a traumatic head injury and would require 10 to 14 days of rest under medical protocols, putting his participation in the upcoming El Clasico in serious doubt.

REAL MADRID BUST-UP BEFORE EL CLASICO

The incident comes during what has already been a chaotic season for Los Blancos. Real Madrid are currently trailing Barcelona in the LaLiga title race and were eliminated from the Champions League quarter-finals by Bayern Munich earlier this season. The club also suffered an early exit from the Copa del Rey.

The seriousness of the incident reportedly forced senior club officials to hold an emergency meeting at the training ground, with players kept back for more than an hour as tensions within the dressing room threatened to spiral further.

Valverde had earlier denied reports that punches were exchanged between the two players. In a public statement, he admitted that frustration and fatigue from a difficult season had contributed to the argument.

"At no point has my teammate hit me, nor have I hit him," Valverde said.

"The result is an accumulation of things that end up in a meaningless argument."

The episode has drawn comparisons with Real Madrid's infamous 2006 training-ground fight between Robinho and Thomas Gravesen, after which the Danish midfielder left the club later that month.
