Ryan Reynolds confirms return as Wade Wilson in new Deadpool film

Actor Ryan Reynolds confirmed another Deadpool film is in the works at the Fanatics Fest 2026. Reynolds had last featured alongside actor Hugh Jackman in Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine.

Actor Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that a new Deadpool film is in the works at Marvel Studios, with the actor set to return. He shared the update during an appearance at Fanatics Fest 2026 over the weekend.

"There’s a few really deep cuts that I think are missing behind the movies. I think there’s a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics," Reynolds said at Fanatics Fest in New York, as reported by Deadline.

"There’s certainly some stuff that, you know, I love that Fabian Nicieza wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan, who was a friend, was an incredible comic writer," he went on.

The actor added, "There’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. It’s going to be great."

The film is in early development and does not yet have a writer or director attached, according to reports. No further details were given, and Marvel had no comment on the project.

The update follows the box-office run of Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), which saw Hugh Jackman reprise his X-Men role as Wolverine. Reynolds had returned as Wade Wilson in the superhero film.

The film became the highest-grossing R-rated film in history, earning $1.338 billion worldwide, according to Deadline.

Apart from the Deadpool sequel, Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set for a theatrical release on July 30 in India. The upcoming film features actors Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colon-Zayas, Jon Bernthal and Michael Mando in key roles.

Marvel Studios also released the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, confirming the return of actor Chris Evans as Steve Rogers to assist actor Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. The duo is seen reuniting to face off against actor Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom.

Avengers: Doomsday will also mark the first time characters from the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises join forces with the Avengers. The American superhero film is set for a theatrical release on December 18, 2026.
