Ather Konarc launched at Rs 1 lakh, gets up to 161km IDC range

Ather's new electric scooter is offered with three battery options, up to 4.7kW of peak power and a 31-litre boot. A 200km-range version is also in the works.

Ather Energy has expanded its electric scooter portfolio with the launch of the Konarc. Prices start at Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), with the scooter currently available in three S variants: S 100, S 125 and S 161. The numbers correspond to their claimed IDC range figures. A higher-spec Konarc Z range and a version offering up to 200km of IDC range are also planned.

The Konarc is based on Ather’s EL platform and focuses on ride comfort, stability and practicality. It gets 90mm of front and 100mm of rear suspension travel, while its 1,352mm wheelbase is the longest in Ather’s scooter range. The scooter rides on a 14-inch front wheel and a 12-inch rear wheel.

Ather Konarc battery and range

The entry-level Konarc S 100 uses a 2.1kWh battery, while the S 125 and S 161 get 2.7kWh and 3.5kWh battery packs, respectively. Peak power output stands at 4kW on the S 100 and 4.7kW on the other two variants, with maximum torque rated at 16Nm.

All three S variants have a claimed top speed of 70kph. Their IDC range figures stand at 100km, 125km and 161km, while Ather’s TrueRange estimates are 80km, 100km and 130km, respectively.

Charging is handled by a 450W onboard charger, which can be paired with a 900W off-board charger for a combined 1.35kW charging capacity. With the standard charger, the S 100 takes four hours to charge from 0-80 percent, while the S 125 and S 161 require 4hr 30min and 5hr 40min, respectively.

Using the combined charging setup brings these figures down to two hours, 2hr 25min and 3hr 10min. Ather claims the scooter can add 13km of range in 10 minutes on the S 100, while the S 125 and S 161 can gain 15km in the same period.

Konarc gets 31-litre boot

Practicality is another focus area for the Konarc. It gets 31 litres of underseat storage, along with an 18W USB Type-C charging port and an underseat light. Park Assist reverse uses the motor to help move the scooter backwards, while AutoHold keeps it stationary when stopped.

The S 100 comes with a 4.2-inch DeepView display, while the S 125 and S 161 get a larger 7-inch unit. Ather Connect brings connected features including theft and tow alerts, ride statistics, Find My Scooter and remote monitoring of charging status.

Konarc Z brings new technology

The upcoming Konarc Z variants will add some of Ather’s latest technology. One of the key additions is the Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS), which electronically manages braking to improve control, reduce stopping distances and limit rear-wheel lock-ups during hard braking.

Another new feature is MagicKey, which allows the boot to be unlocked through the Ather app. On the Z 161, it works alongside the AutoPop function to automatically open the boot.

The Z variants will also support Google Maps and WhatsApp on the dashboard, while cricket scores can be viewed when the scooter is stationary. OTA updates are supported as well.

The Konarc uses a PMSM motor with IP67 protection, while its battery pack carries the same IP67 rating and sits inside an aluminium casing. Kerb weight ranges from 126.5kg for the S 100 to 129kg for the S 161.

Ather Konarc price and variants

Ather has also extended the Konarc’s maintenance intervals, with servicing required every 10,000km or one year, whichever comes first. Deliveries of the new electric scooter are scheduled to begin in September.
