Madhya Pradesh government recommends CBI probe in Twisha Sharma 'dowry death' case

by Akash Chatterjee · India TodayThe Madhya Pradesh government on Friday recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the dowry death case of Noida woman Twisha Sharma, who died at her matrimonial home in Bhopal.
According to an official notification issued by the Home Department, the state government has accorded its consent to transfer the investigation to the premier central agency.
Exercising the powers vested under Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, the Madhya Pradesh government, in the name of the Governor, has granted formal consent to extend the jurisdiction of CBI members throughout the state for investigating this specific case. The authorisation explicitly covers the investigation of the primary offence, any abetment to the crime, and any related criminal conspiracy.
The notification, signed by Home Department Secretary Krishnaveni Deshavatu, has been forwarded to top central and state authorities to initiate the immediate transition of the case files. Copies of the order have been dispatched to the Joint Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Union Home Secretary, the CBI Director in New Delhi, the Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police, the Bhopal District Magistrate, the Bhopal Police Commissioner, and regional CBI officers in Bhopal for prompt execution.
