Too early to say if Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli will play 2027 World Cup: Ashish Nehra

Ashish Nehra has said it is too early to predict whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will make India's squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit and Kohli currently only play the ODI format and are pushing to make it to the squad for the next ICC event.

Former India pacer Ashish Nehra feels it will be too early to say if both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will make the squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit and Kohli's careers are approaching the twilight phase but both men continue to push for selection in the ODI side.

Having retired from Tests and T20Is, both men are one-format players at the moment and are aiming to make it to the next World Cup in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Kohli and Rohit have scored 384 and 379 runs respectively from six and nine matches this year.

Rohit and Kohli were part of India's squad during the England tour, where there was speculation that the former may retire after a string of poor performances.

BCCI and Rohit have since gone on to deny the rumours. Speaking to PTI, Nehra believes it is still too soon to predict whether the two experienced players will remain part of India's plans, stressing that form and performances can alter the picture even shortly before a major tournament.

Nehra said that 13 months is a long time and isn't ruling out any possibility for the Indian duo at this moment.

"We have seen, not in Indian cricket but in any sport, that even 2-3 weeks before, things change. If they are doing well, if they are performing, why not? It's not going to be easy for any coach or any captain when it comes to these players."

"We all know, we don't need to discuss what they have done in the past. For 13 months, a long time, it is very difficult to say right now that Rohit or Virat will be there. I mean, for those guys, age is no number. I'm saying no to any certainty."

"Yes, we talk about Shubman Gill, we talk Bumrah, but the same Gill is not in T20 sport. The way he is playing is fast-speed sport in more formats. It is difficult to say. It is too early for me," said Nehra.

Rohit and Kohli will be next in action during the West Indies ODIs, which will begin from September 27.
