Hyundai has unveiled the India-spec Bayon ahead of its October 26 launch, showcasing a technology-rich SUV with generative AI voice assistance, dual 12.3-inch displays and a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayHyundai Motor India has unveiled the India-spec Bayon, a new SUV that will expand the company’s portfolio in the country with a strong focus on connected technology, artificial intelligence and an enhanced digital experience. Bookings for the SUV are now open online and across authorised Hyundai dealerships for Rs 11,000, ahead of its launch on October 26, 2026. Deliveries are scheduled to begin during the festive season.
Positioned between the Venue and Creta, the Bayon is expected to strengthen Hyundai’s presence in the competitive mid-size SUV segment. It will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, with a combination of contemporary styling, a feature-rich cabin and a familiar petrol powertrain.
Hyundai Bayon exterior design
The Bayon adopts Hyundai’s latest ‘Art of Steel’ design language, with a layered front fascia and a split headlamp arrangement. Slim LED daytime running lights sit along the leading edge of the bonnet, while the main headlamp units are positioned lower down in the bumper. Black and silver cladding adds contrast to the front-end design.
In profile, pronounced wheel arches, sharp character lines and petal-style alloy wheels lend the SUV a muscular appearance. The blacked-out pillars create a floating-roof effect, while conventional pull-type door handles retain a practical approach to the exterior design.
At the rear, the Bayon features slim tail-lamp elements connected visually by a black trim section, along with bold Bayon lettering on the tailgate. A prominent roof spoiler and a dual-tone bumper complete the styling. Hyundai has yet to announce the SUV’s exact dimensions.
Hyundai Bayon interior and features
The cabin is centred around a dual-screen arrangement comprising two 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The connected screens form a curved panoramic layout, giving the dashboard a more contemporary, technology-focused appearance.
The SUV also gets Hyundai’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), accelerated by NVIDIA. The system incorporates online navigation, split-screen functionality, personalised controls and quick-access menus designed to make frequently used functions easier to operate. The centre console features a vertically oriented layout, while the dashboard includes a dedicated panel for climate controls.
A key highlight is Hyundai Motor India’s first-ever Generative AI Voice Assistant, incorporating intelligence from Perplexity and voice AI technology from SoundHound AI. The system is designed to handle conversational requests, allowing occupants to seek information about weather conditions, travel itineraries, hotels, restaurants and nearby attractions, among other topics.
The Bayon will also feature Hyundai Bluelink with more than 70 connected functions, including remote vehicle controls, vehicle information, location-based services and smartphone and smartwatch connectivity.
Adding to its technology package is support for over-the-air updates for up to 19 vehicle controllers. These updates are intended to enable remote software enhancements without requiring owners to visit a dealership for every update.
Hyundai has also focused on accessibility for Indian customers. The infotainment and instrument cluster interfaces support 10 regional languages and two international languages, while more than 500 embedded voice commands are available in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu. These commands enable access to several functions without an internet connection.
Hyundai Bayon engine and gearbox options
Powering the Bayon is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated MPi petrol engine that produces 115bhp and 144Nm of torque. The engine is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox or CVT which the company calls Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT).
This is the same basic engine output as that of the Creta’s naturally aspirated petrol version, giving the Bayon a familiar powertrain rather than a new engine option at launch. Hyundai has not announced a CNG variant in its official launch announcement.
Hyundai Bayon launch date and expected price
The Hyundai Bayon will launch in India on October 26, 2026, with bookings currently open for Rs 11,000 through the company’s official website and authorised dealerships. Deliveries are expected to commence during the festive season.
Hyundai has not announced the SUV’s prices yet. It is expected to sit below the Creta in the company’s lineup, with its positioning and equipment likely to be key factors in determining how it competes against established rivals in the segment.
