WHY HAS THE GOVERNMENT ISSUED THIS ADVISORY?
According to the MEA, several Indian pilgrims travelling through private tour operators sought help after being unable to continue their journey from Nepal because they did not possess the required entry permits and visas for China. The ministry has urged travellers to be cautious and well-prepared before starting the pilgrimage.
DO NOT START YOUR JOURNEY WITHOUT COMPLETE DOCUMENTS
The government has advised pilgrims not to begin their journey from India until all required travel documents for the entire trip have been obtained. This includes valid visas, entry permits, and any other approvals needed to complete the pilgrimage.
The advisory warns that commencing travel without confirmed documentation or with the expectation of obtaining permits later can significantly increase the chances of being stranded.
VERIFY YOUR TOUR OPERATOR'S CREDENTIALS
The MEA has also strongly advised pilgrims to verify that their chosen tour operator is duly registered and authorised. Booking through a legitimate operator can help ensure that documentation, permits, and travel arrangements comply with official requirements.
WHO SHOULD PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION?
The advisory is especially relevant for Indians planning to undertake the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through private tour operators instead of the government-organised route. Pilgrims should thoroughly check visa and permit requirements well in advance and avoid relying on verbal assurances regarding documentation.
The Ministry has reiterated that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra should only be undertaken after securing all mandatory travel documents and confirming the authenticity of the tour operator. Proper preparation can help pilgrims avoid unnecessary delays, disruptions, and travel-related difficulties during this sacred journey
