At least six people, including four of the same family, were injured after an out-of-control bus rammed into as many as eight cars from behind on a road in Jaipur while the traffic on the stretch was halted for the movement of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma's convoy, according to the police.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the rear portions of many of the cars got mangled. This caused six people to get trapped inside the vehicles.

Following this, the police reached the spot and initiated a rescue operation with help from the locals. The police personnel broke open one of the jammed doors of a taxi by repeatedly kicking it, managing to rescue a man and a woman who were trapped inside.

The man was found badly pinned between the seats and had suffered a serious head injury. The police rushed him to the hospital for urgent treatment.

His condition is said to be critical. The man, along with his wife, mother-in-law, and another relative, was on the way to visit the Khatu Shyamji temple.

The woman and her mother underwent CT scans following the mishap. Preliminary police investigation suggests that the accident was caused due to the failure of the private bus's brakes. It was ferrying devotees to Khatu Shyamji from Gujarat's Ahmedabad.

The driver of the bus fled the scene after the accident. A search has been launched to track him down. Alternative travel arrangements were also made for the passengers of the bus.

According to Harmada Station House Officer (SHO) Uday Singh Yadav, the accident occurred before the CM Sharma's convoy arrived at the location.
