- FASTag annual pass fee rises to Rs 3,075
- The pass covers 200 toll crossings or one year
- Cashless toll payments become mandatory
The FASTag annual pass price will increase slightly from April 1, 2026. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that the fee will rise from Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,075, a 2.5 per cent increase linked to inflation adjustments.
The pass is designed for private vehicle owners who frequently travel on national highways. It allows up to 200 toll crossings or one year of use, whichever comes first.
Even with the price change, the FASTag annual pass continues to offer major savings for regular highway users and keeps toll payments quick and cashless.
WHAT IS THE FASTAG ANNUAL PASS?
The FASTag annual pass is available for private vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans. Instead of paying toll charges each time, users can buy a yearly pass that allows multiple highway crossings within a fixed limit.
The pass covers 200 toll trips in a year. For frequent travellers, this can significantly reduce the overall toll cost compared to paying standard toll charges at every plaza.
More than 5 million users currently hold FASTag annual passes, accounting for about 28 per cent of car toll transactions on highways.
FASTAG TOLL PAYMENT CHANGES IN 2026
Several updates to the FASTag toll system are also being introduced in 2026.
Toll plazas are moving towards mandatory cashless payments. Drivers can pay using FASTag or through UPI if needed. However, vehicles without FASTag may have to pay 25 per cent extra through UPI or double the toll amount in cash.
Another change is the integration with the VAHAN vehicle database. For new FASTag registrations, the vehicle details will be verified directly through VAHAN, which removes the need for a separate Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process.
Authorities may also impose penalties for users who do not follow the new rules.
WHY THE PRICE HIKE IS SMALL FOR DRIVERS
The price increase for the pass is relatively small, Rs 75 more per year. For frequent travellers, the cost per trip still remains much lower than regular toll payments.
In many cases, drivers using the annual pass may effectively pay around Rs 15 per trip, depending on their travel frequency. This makes the pass a practical option for people who regularly use national highways.
The adjustment is linked to inflation through the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) and applies only to the annual pass.
