Imtiaz Ali's Main Vaapas Aaunga continues its theatrical run on a modest note, even as the film garners praise from viewers and critics. The romantic drama, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina and Sharvari, has received favourable reviews since its release on June 12, but continues to face stiff competition from multiple releases at the ticket window.
According to Sacnilk's latest box-office figures, Main Vaapas Aaunga collected a nett of Rs 1.25 crore on Day 4, its first Monday, across 2,139 shows. With this, the film’s total India gross collection has reached Rs 8.10 crore, while its India nett collection stands at Rs 6.75 crore.
The film opened with Rs 1.15 crore on Friday and witnessed growth over the weekend, collecting Rs 1.85 crore on Saturday and Rs 2.50 crore on Sunday. Monday’s earnings added another Rs 1.25 crore to its tally, taking its overall collections to Rs 8.10 crore gross in India.
One of the major hurdles for the film appears to be the crowded box-office environment. Main Vaapas Aaunga is currently competing with several releases, including Ram Charan’s Peddi, Kangana Ranaut’s Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Vikram Bhatt’s Haunted 3D: Echoes Of The Past and Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film centres on a 95-year-old man whose urgent journey to Pakistan is interrupted by a stroke. As he drifts between memory and reality, his grandson begins piecing together fragments of a deeply personal story connected to the Partition era. Through these memories, the film explores themes of loss, longing and the emotional scars that linger long after borders are drawn.
Apart from its story, the film’s soundtrack has emerged as one of its strongest talking points. Songs such as Kya Kamaal Hai, performed by Diljit Dosanjh, along with Maskara and Ishq Mastana, have resonated with audiences and gained popularity in recent weeks.
