Actor Kangana Ranaut’s Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata opened to a slow start at the box office on Friday. Its total India gross collections stood at Rs 1.19 crore, while the total India net collections were Rs 1 crore so far.

The film’s opening came amid a crowded Friday at the box office, with nine films releasing on the same day. In that line-up, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata was one of the titles competing for screens and audience attention, with the weekend expected to depend heavily on word-of-mouth.

The Hindi 2D version recorded 3.77 per cent occupancy in the morning shows, 12.00 per cent in the afternoon and 10.54 per cent in the evening. This took its overall occupancy for the day to 9.63 per cent.

The National Capital Region (NCR) had the highest number of shows for the film at 281. Mumbai followed with 167 shows, while Ahmedabad had 143 shows. In terms of occupancy, NCR recorded 7 per cent, Mumbai 11.3 per cent and Ahmedabad 4.7 per cent.

Box office clash

This Friday saw one of the biggest box office clashes in recent times, with nine films arriving in cinemas together. The list included Main Vaapas Aaunga, Governor, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Haunted 3D, Sing Geetham, Varavu, Disclosure Day, Backrooms and Heer Sara. Trade observers said the weekend would be shaped by content, audience response and word-of-mouth rather than star power alone.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta had said that Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, despite being based on a true story, could face a challenge because its 26/11 setting may feel overdone for some viewers. He also said the trailer had not created the required excitement ahead of release.

Is the film worth a watch?

India Today gave the film 3 stars. A part of the review read, “Kangana returns to play a real-life-inspired hero and once again proves why she remains one of the industry’s finest performers. The camera frequently lingers on her face, trusting her to communicate fear, determination and grief without saying much. She rarely disappoints. A breakdown scene in particular stands out, revealing the emotional burden carried by a woman trying to save lives while confronting death at every corner.”

Written and directed by Manoj Tapadia, the film also features Girija Oak, Smita Tambe, Amrutha Namdev, Esha Dey, Priya Berde, Asha Shelar, Suhita Thatte, Rasika Aghase, Aditya Mishra and Zahid Khan in key roles.
