A woman constable in Rajasthan’s Ajmer has accused a fellow constable of rape, forced abortion, cheating and criminal intimidation. The accused has been suspended.
According to the complaint, the accused constable allegedly sexually exploited the woman for a long period after promising to marry her. The survivor alleged that the accused also behaved obscenely with her and later forced her to undergo an abortion.
The woman further claimed that the accused had conspired to get her divorced as part of the plan to continue the relationship under the false promise of marriage.
Following the allegations, Ajmer Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agarwala suspended the accused constable with immediate effect.
The case has widened beyond the main accused, with police also booking his wife, brother, sister and brother-in-law under various sections based on the woman’s complaint. The survivor alleged that the accused’s family continuously threatened her and even warned that she could be killed through a criminal gang. Allegations of financial fraud have also surfaced in the case.
Ajmer North Circle Officer Shivam Joshi said a case has been registered based on the complaint and the survivor’s medical examination has been conducted as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) laid down by the police headquarters.
He said the accused constable has been suspended and investigators are closely examining all documents and evidence linked to the case.
Police are now probing the role of the other accused persons, including the claims of threats and intimidation.
