Patna police arrests exam aspirant with illicit liquor worth Rs 14,000

Patna Police arrested a competitive exam aspirant after allegedly recovering illicit English liquor near Patna Junction. She told police she carried the consignment for money, and investigators are examining other aspects of the case.

Patna Police arrested a woman who was preparing for a competitive examination after allegedly finding her in possession of illicit liquor near Patna Junction. Police said the woman had travelled by train from Uttar Pradesh to Patna carrying the liquor.

A police patrol team stopped the woman and some young men who were travelling on a motorcycle after a tip-off and arrested them with illicit liquor.

Police recovered liquor worth around Rs 14,000 from the handbag and shoulder bag carried by the woman, identified as Riya. During the search of her bags, police found more than half a dozen bottles of branded illicit liquor.

The patrol team seized the liquor consignment and took the woman into custody. During questioning, the woman told police that an acquaintance had offered her money to bring the illicit English liquor consignment from Uttar Pradesh.

According to the woman's statement to police, she accepted the offer after being lured by the money and the man's assurances. She travelled by train from Uttar Pradesh and reached Patna. Police caught her after she got off the train at Patna Junction and came outside.

Police said the woman belongs to a middle-class family and is a resident of Patna. She was preparing for a competitive examination. During questioning, she told police that this was her first involvement in bringing illicit liquor for the trade.

Police are investigating other aspects of the case.
