Actor Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 has delivered an opening weekend performance at the global box office, crossing the coveted Rs 100 crore mark worldwide in just 3 days to dominate the Independence Day clash against Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947.
According to Sacnilk, the Nitin Kakkar directorial collected Rs 110.10 crore gross globally (including Rs 12 crore from overseas circuits), while its domestic collection stood at Rs 81.75 crore nett (Rs 98.10 crore gross), surpassing Hashmi's previous best opening weekend by 89 percent.
Awarapan 2 is currently running across 628 shows nationwide and has added Rs 0.05 crore nett from early Monday screenings, as reported by Sacnilk. This pushes the film’s total domestic tally to Rs 98.16 crore gross and Rs 81.80 crore nett, as final official figures continue to roll in.
On its third day in theatres, Awarapan 2 minted Rs 26 crore nett in India across 9,403 shows, driving total opening weekend ticket sales past 1.59 million. Despite a mild drop from Saturday's peak, the film maintained solid theatrical footfall across single screens and national multiplex chains to wrap up its opening weekend.
Sunday's earnings saw a 23 percent dip from Saturday's massive Rs 33.75 crore nett, which was registered across 10,496 shows following a 53.4 percent surge on the Independence Day holiday. The sequel had initially launched its theatrical journey on Friday with an opening day collection of Rs 22 crore nett across 9,033 shows.
In parallel box office tracking, Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947 trailed significantly behind, wrapping its opening weekend with a worldwide gross collection of Rs 26.41 crore (including Rs 3.50 crore overseas), according to Sacnilk. The Partition drama logged Rs 19.25 crore nett in India, and has registered Rs 0.02 crore nett in early Monday business across 394 shows, pushing its domestic gross total to Rs 22.91 crore.
On Sunday, Batwara 1947 saw a pull-back in business, netting Rs 7.25 crore across 7,239 shows in India. The film had opened to Rs 5.75 crore nett on Friday across 8,721 shows, before witnessing a sharp weekend spike on Saturday to log Rs 13.75 crore nett across 8,071 shows. The film has grossed Rs 37.11 crore worldwide.
