More than 4.60 lakh students in Uttar Pradesh received scholarships and fee reimbursements on Saturday, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath transferring over Rs 148 crore to their bank accounts.

Speaking at a programme in Lucknow, the chief minister said financial hardship should not stop children from studying.

“We will ensure that scholarship reaches every eligible child,” Adityanath said, adding that the government wants to increase coverage from the current 4.60 lakh students to 70 lakh.

He also directed the Social Welfare, Backward Classes Welfare and Minority Welfare departments to ensure the money reaches eligible students' accounts every month.

‘NO ONE CAN SIPHON OFF CHILDREN'S SCHOLARSHIP MONEY’

Adityanath contrasted the current system with what he alleged happened under the previous Samajwadi Party government.

“Modi ji's technology campaign has stopped pilferage, and now no one can siphon off children's scholarship money,” he said.

The CM claimed that the previous government provided around Rs 2,900 crore in scholarships, while the current government provides about Rs 6,200 crore.

He further alleged that only 60 to 70 students out of every 100 earlier received scholarship benefits.

“Earlier, only 60 to 70 children out of 100 benefited from scholarships,” he said, alleging that clerks and others diverted funds.

According to the figures cited by the CM, last year Rs 2,750 crore was provided to 26.26 lakh SC and ST students, Rs 360 crore to 5.89 lakh minority students and Rs 3,072 crore to 37 lakh students from Backward Classes.

FROM SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE TO JEE, NEET COACHING

Adityanath also spoke about changes in government schools under Operation Kayakalp, listing toilets, drinking water, furniture, flooring, uniforms, books, bags, sweaters, shoes and socks among the facilities provided.

He said infrastructure gaps had earlier contributed to girls leaving school.

The CM also highlighted Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Coaching, saying students preparing for JEE and NEET can now access coaching within Uttar Pradesh instead of travelling to other states.

He also announced that 50,000 meritorious girls will receive scooters next month.

“There is no shortage of funds for students,” Adityanath said, reiterating the government's scholarship push.
