Lucknow couple send gay son to live separately, he returns home and kills mother

A 17-year-old boy in Lucknow has been detained after he confessed to killing his 42-year-old mother by repeatedly striking her with a wrench, according to the police.

The incident took place at around 9 pm on Thursday at the family's residence. The teen was living separately, and preliminary findings suggest that there had been long-standing disagreements within the family over his homosexuality.

According to the police, the boy had expressed a desire to meet his mother on Thursday night, following which his father called him home.

After he reached the apartment, an argument broke out between the minor and his mother over an issue. During the argument, the teenager allegedly attacked her with a wrench, killing her on the spot.

After the incident, the boy himself called his father and the police and informed them about the killing. Senior police officials, including the local DCP, reached the spot, while a forensic team collected evidence from the scene.

The issue of the boy's homosexuality had frequently led to arguments between the mother and son. The family had also decided to keep the gay teen away from home due to fears of social stigma.

The boy's father told the police that his son had been struggling with mental health-related problems for some time and had been receiving treatment at different hospitals.

About four months ago, the family had rented a separate room for him in the city, around 1.5 km from their home. The family used to provide him with money every month for his living and other expenses.

The teenager is the couple's only child. His father is a clothes' trader. The police said the minor has been taken into police custody and is being questioned.

Investigators are looking into all aspects of the case, including the motive behind the killing, the disputes within the family and the teenager's mental health history.
