Send CVs: Prashant Kishor vows jobs for 10,000 Bankipur youths days after poll win

Days after ending the BJP’s three-decade hold over Bankipur, Jan Suraaj Party leader Prashant Kishor has announced an employment push for the constituency, promising to help at least 10,000 youths find jobs over the next one to two years. He has asked families to send the CVs and biodata of their educated but unemployed children to his office.

Kishor made the announcement on Tuesday during his first visit to Bankipur after his August 3 bypoll victory. He was touring the constituency as part of a thanksgiving exercise and thanked voters for reposing their trust in him. “I am not travelling anywhere. I am working for you,” Kishor said in response to criticism that he had been away from the constituency for five or six days after his election victory.

He said he would use his network of contacts with companies and individuals across the country to help eligible youths secure private-sector jobs. Kishor, however, made it clear that he could not promise government employment and said some young people may initially have to move outside Bihar for work.

He appealed to families with educated but unemployed children to prepare their CVs and submit them to his office. His aim, he said, was to help at least 10,000 families in Bankipur get employment for their children within the next one to two years.

Kishor said the situation could change if the Jan Suraaj Party comes to power in Bihar. In that case, he said, the focus would be on creating enough employment opportunities within the state so that young people do not have to leave Bihar in search of jobs.

The employment promise comes soon after Kishor scripted the Jan Suraaj Party’s first electoral victory on August 3, defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by 19,324 votes in the high-stakes Bankipur Assembly bypoll. Kishor polled 64,151 votes against Sinha’s 44,827, while RJD’s Rekha Gupta finished a distant third with 14,273 votes.

The victory ended the BJP’s uninterrupted 30-year hold over Bankipur, considered one of its strongest bastions in Bihar. Kishor had surged ahead in the early counting trends and steadily increased his lead, with the result becoming virtually certain by the 15th round of counting out of 32.

After his victory became clear, Kishor had said his immediate priority would be to honour the trust placed in him by Bankipur voters. He had promised to work towards improving the constituency, saying residents would start seeing changes within two to three months.

At the time, Kishor had also tempered expectations, saying his election as an MLA would not turn Bankipur “into Bengaluru overnight”, but assured residents that visible improvements would begin taking shape within the next few months.

Besides jobs, Kishor has listed education, a monthly pension of Rs 1,100 and food grains among his four key priorities for the constituency.
