Video: Woman driver rams elderly couple out on walk in Delhi, flees spot; arrested
A speeding Hyundai Creta hit a 79-year-old couple from behind in Delhi's Kirti Nagar, leaving both injured. CCTV footage and the driver's alleged departure from the spot are central to the police investigation.

A 79-year-old couple was injured after a speeding Hyundai Creta hit them from behind in Delhi’s Kirti Nagar area on October 2, police said. The incident was captured on CCTV, with footage showing the couple being thrown several metres away after the impact.
The injured have been identified as Kusum, 79, and Dayanand, 79. Police said both were taken for medical treatment and their condition is currently out of danger. Dayanand suffered a head injury, while Kusum sustained minor injuries.
COUPLE HIT NEAR THEIR HOME
According to preliminary information, the couple had returned from a religious place and were near their home when the car struck them from behind. The incident took place at around 9.30 am on October 2.
The CCTV footage shows the Hyundai Creta travelling at speed before hitting the elderly couple. The impact caused both of them to fall onto the road.
The footage also shows the woman driving the car getting out of the vehicle shortly after the collision. She can be seen looking towards the injured couple before leaving the spot without taking them to a hospital, according to the footage.
WOMAN DRIVER ARRESTED
Police identified the driver as 49-year-old Navleen, a homemaker. Police said she was driving the Hyundai Creta when the accident took place.
Following the incident, police registered a case and arrested the woman driver. The vehicle involved in the accident has also been seized as part of the investigation.
Police are examining the CCTV footage and other available evidence to establish the sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the crash.
COUPLE OUT OF DANGER
Dayanand suffered an injury to his head in the collision, while Kusum sustained comparatively minor injuries. Police said the couple is currently out of danger.
The incident has also raised concerns over road safety and the conduct of motorists following accidents, particularly when injured people require immediate medical assistance.
Police are continuing their investigation into the case. Further details regarding the sections invoked and the circumstances leading to the accident are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
