| Model | Price |
|---|---|
| Honda XR300L | Rs 1.83 lakh |
| Honda XR300 Rally | Rs 2.08 lakh |
The new XR models enter a segment that has gained considerable traction in India, with the Hero Xpulse 210 and Kawasaki KLX230 among the motorcycles currently catering to riders looking for lightweight off-road machines.
Honda XR300L, XR300 Rally engine and hardware
Powering both motorcycles is a 293.5cc single-cylinder, air- and oil-cooled engine related to the unit used by the Honda CB300F. In international markets, this engine develops around 24.3bhp and 26.5Nm of torque.
The India-spec motorcycles, however, feature a revised exhaust layout compared to the South American-spec XR300L.
Both bikes get a conventional telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Their off-road credentials are further underlined by 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels.
What does the XR300 Rally add?
The XR300 Rally is designed to offer a more touring-friendly and adventure-oriented package than the standard XR300L. For the additional Rs 25,000, it gets a larger fuel tank, taller windscreen, knuckle guards and distinctive rally-style bodywork.
The Rally also features a 5-inch TFT instrument console and more extensive switchgear. Its additional equipment and larger tank make it slightly heavier than the XR300L, while its seat is also expected to be marginally taller.
Honda is yet to release the complete specifications of both motorcycles for India, including their final kerb weights, seat heights and suspension travel figures.
Honda enters a growing off-road motorcycle segment
The arrival of the XR300L and XR300 Rally gives Honda a new presence in India's lightweight dual-sport and adventure motorcycle space. The segment has expanded rapidly in recent years, with manufacturers increasingly offering motorcycles that combine manageable dimensions with genuine off-road hardware.
With the XR300L priced below the Kawasaki KLX230 and only slightly above the Hero Xpulse 210, Honda's new motorcycle could make a strong case on engine capacity and positioning. The XR300 Rally, meanwhile, provides a more touring-oriented alternative while remaining below the KLX230 in price.
