Kangana Ranaut sends Friendship Day wishes to Gen Z after 'Generation Gutter' row

Days after sparking outrage with her 'Generation Gutter' remarks, actor-politician Kangana Ranaut shared a gym interaction with two Gen Z girls to extend her Friendship Day wishes.

Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has wished Gen Z a Happy Friendship Day days after her remarks about the generation sparked a row on social media. Kangana had come under criticism after reacting to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led youth protests in India, where she described some protesters as "Generation Gutter."

Her latest Instagram Story appeared to strike a different note, even as she repeated her view that “freedom needs accountability”. In the post, Kangana spoke about a conversation with two Gen Z girls at a gym and said the exchange ended with a Friendship Day wish for her “Gen-z friends”.

Sharing the interaction, Kangana wrote, "Today in the gym I met 2 Gen-Z girls who I know, they asked me Kangana Didi we are born in digital age and yes social media, Instagram, dating apps, AI and all are a way of life for us, most of us are using them and some of us can’t live differently now, everyone wants the freedom to live their life the way they want (sic)."

She added, “I told curious young women that yes you are free to live your life as long as you don’t throw others children off the cliff, or cut them in to many pieces (sic)."

"Since there are too many cases where liberal way of life and conservative way of life is clashing and too many children are getting killed for no fault of theirs and it’s a big concern for us, they agreed that freedom needs accountability. Happy friendship day to my Gen-z friends. Peace out," the actor concluded.

The row began with a series of posts by Kangana reacting to videos from the Cockroach Janta Party’s youth-led protests.

In one of the posts, she wrote, "Never in my life have I seen so much ugliness in one place. These reels from Gen Z protests are puke-inducing. The way they speak and the kind of language they are using... never in my life have I seen everything in each and every frame so jarring and so crass all at once (sic)."

She also alleged that the protesters were misusing the freedom they enjoyed and accused them of glorifying substance abuse while depending on their parents financially.

Kangana further wrote, "I call them Generation Gutter. Some of them have nothing to offer to the system. They are not good at studies. They are so ugly and corrupt that they can't even be homemakers (sic)."

Her comments drew heavy backlash on social media, with actor Sonu Sood also speaking out against her remarks and calling them "very shameful."
