Manchester United confirmed on Thursday that midfielder Kobbie Mainoo will be sidelined for several weeks after sustaining a muscle injury during their recent match against Aston Villa. Mainoo had to withdraw from England's Nations League fixtures against Greece and Finland due to the injury, as did teammate Harry Maguire, who is also out for a few weeks following his injury during the 0-0 draw with Villa.

United's injury woes continue, with key players like Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount, and Leny Yoro still sidelined. Their absences have compounded the team's struggles, as they currently sit 14th in the Premier League table with only eight points from seven matches.

Mainoo has been a revelation for United since his breakthrough last season. In an official statement, United announced the setbacks to Mainoo and Maguire and also revealed that Shaw and Mount are making good progress in their rehabilitation.

"Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire were absent after picking up muscle injuries against Villa, and they are both expected to be out for a few weeks."

"Mason Mount continues his recovery from a knock sustained against Tottenham Hotspur, and Luke Shaw from a muscle injury, with both making steady progress in their rehabilitations," read the statement.

On a positive note for United, forwards Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo, who had missed international duty due to injury and illness, are back in training and are expected to be available for the club's home game against Brentford on Saturday. Morocco international Noussair Mazraoui has also returned to training after being forced off due to illness at Villa.

United also announced that Tyrell Malacia was continuing his recovery and participated in the first part of the group session.

"Tyrell Malacia continued his progress towards recovery from long-term injury by participating in the first part of the group session," read the statement.

United will be aiming to make a quick turnaround in their results with the Brentford game.
