The trailer of Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari Wagh, Vedang Raina and Naseeruddin Shah, has been released. Set in the pre-Partition era, the film presents a story of love, longing and belonging, while looking at the emotional weight of memory and human connection.
The trailer places its focus on both a personal and historical journey. It asks whether love can truly be lost and whether home can be taken away from someone’s heart, framing the film as not only the story of a boy and a girl, but also of a country.
The trailer begins with Naseeruddin Shah’s character expressing his final wish: to visit his pind, Sargodha, where he lived before Partition. Sargodha is now a major city in Pakistan’s Punjab. Diljit Dosanjh plays his grandson, who does everything he can to fulfil that wish.
Sharvari Wagh plays the older man’s youthful love interest, while Vedang Raina appears as the younger version of Naseeruddin Shah’s character. The trailer follows his early years and his romance with Sharvari’s character before Partition tears them apart.
The film is presented as a personal story of love and longing that remained in one person’s heart for 78 years after the country was divided.
Main Vaapas Aaunga also brings together AR Rahman, Irshad Kamil and Imtiaz Ali. The trio has previously worked together on films including Jab We Met and Rockstar.
The film is scheduled to release in theatres on June 12.
