Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak has alleged “misuse of government machinery” after reports surfaced that two FIRs have been filed against him in Punjab, even as he maintained he has not received any official information.
“Since yesterday, television channels have been reporting that two FIRs have been filed against me in Punjab. I have yet to receive any formal or informal information,” he said.
Pathak said he is waiting for a copy of the FIRs before giving a detailed response.
“I’ve been waiting to receive a copy so I can respond. I don’t have any information yet. If an FIR has been filed after misusing government machinery, I will respond fully after seeing it,” he said.
Pathak recently quit the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party along with six other Rajya Sabha MPs, a move that triggered a political storm.
“I didn’t leave the Aam Aadmi Party for personal reasons. It was due to long-standing differences in ideology and work style,” he said.
Sources said Punjab Police has registered two FIRs against Pathak under non-bailable sections, though details of the charges have not been made public.
A police team also reached his Delhi residence, but he had left before they arrived.
BJP leaders have backed Pathak, calling the action politically motivated.
Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar said, “Those whom your leader was calling the apple of his eye just days ago as soon as they switch parties, flaws start appearing in them.”
Party leaders said they would not be intimidated and would oppose any such action.
The development comes days after seven Rajya Sabha MPs quit the AAP and joined the BJP, reducing the party’s strength in the Upper House.
With Pathak insisting he has not yet seen the FIRs, the focus now remains on the charges and how the case unfolds in the coming days.
