  • Apple unlikely to delay iPhone Fold shipment, says new report
  • Initial supply of foldable iPhone may be limited due to production constraints
  • iPhone Fold is expected to launch in September 2026

Apple is expected to make a big change this year. The Cupertino giant is likely going to enter the foldable smartphone market this year with the rumoured foldable iPhone. Rumours indicate that the iPhone Fold could be the biggest design overhaul in the history of the iPhone. For context, the original iPhone was launched in 2007. However, there has been some chatter online that Apple may be struggling with the production of the iPhone Fold.

A report from Nikkei Asia claimed that the Cupertino giant was likely facing manufacturing issues with the foldable iPhone, which could’ve caused a delay in shipments by up to a few months, potentially leading the sales period to begin by 2027. Now, a report from Bloomberg has contradicted these claims. As per Bloomberg, the foldable iPhone is on-track to launch as per Apple’s regular schedule. Here are all the details.

When will iPhone Fold launch?

The report states that the foldable iPhone will likely make its debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in Apple’s fall 2026 event. The event is expected to be held in September this year, though the exact date is unclear.

Contrary to previous rumours, the iPhone Fold is expected to go on sale alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, likely a week after the launch. Though the report does indicate that initial supply for the foldable device may be limited.

Apple starts iPhone Fold production

According to tipster Instant Digital on Weibo, Apple has begun the trial production for the iPhone Fold. Leaks indicate that the production is being done at Taiwanese manufacturing giant Foxconn's facility. Foxconn is known to manufacture iPhones, and even has facilities in India.

iPhone Fold, here is what we know

The foldable iPhone is expected to come with a 5.5-inch outer display and a larger 7.8-inch inner screen when unfolded, resembling an iPad-like aspect ratio. Both panels will likely be high-refresh rate AMOLED units.

To keep the thickness in check, Apple is expected to swap Face ID in favour of a side-mounted Touch ID sensor. Both screens of the iPhone Fold will likely get punch-hole selfie cameras. For better durability, the iPhone Fold will likely use a Liquid Metal hinge.

The iPhone Fold is expected to come with the yet-to-be-announced A20 Pro chipset, which could bring significant performance gains compared to the A19 Pro chipset we saw on the iPhone 17 Pro. On the back, you can expect a dual camera setup – likely a 48-megapixel main and a 48-megapixel ultrawide – in addition to one selfie camera on each screen.

iPhone Fold expected price

While details regarding the pricing for the iPhone Fold are scarce, the device may come with a premium price tag. As per reports, the foldable iPhone may cost around $2,400 (roughly Rs 2,22,000) in the US. To give you some context, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 costs Rs 1,74,999 in India.
