Singer Mika Singh has spoken about his equation with Diljit Dosanjh and said he feels proud of the Punjabi singer’s success. However, he also questioned Diljit’s decision not to promote Border 2 more actively. Mika said he was speaking to Diljit “as a brother” and felt the film deserved his support.
In an interview with Times Now, Mika was asked about his earlier criticism of Diljit, after the singer-actor worked in Sardaar Ji 3 with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir amid strained India-Pakistan ties. Mika had earlier questioned Diljit’s decision to promote the film and urged him to apologise, but clarified that his comments were directed at that specific situation and not at Diljit personally.
“I am very proud of him. Because after Dilip Kumar ji, if someone in a turban came as a Sikh, obviously it is Diljit Dosanjh. He is a good-looking guy and doing very good work,” Mika said.
However, Mika said he had questions about Diljit’s approach to promoting Border 2, which stars Sunny Deol and is set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan conflict. He also felt Diljit did not actively promote Imtiaz Ali's Main Vaapas Aaunga.
“I could be wrong also, but when Border 2 came, I felt Diljit bhai did not promote even one per cent of it,” Mika said. He pointed out that Diljit did not thank Sunny Deol and director JP Dutta, and felt there was more he could have done to promote the film.
Mika compared it with Diljit’s posts around other projects and questioned why he did not give the same visibility to a film that he described as being important for India.
“I am advising him as a brother. If Border 2 has come, it is one of the biggest films of India. It is a film for our country. Why don’t you post about it?” Mika said.
He also referred to Diljit’s social media activity around Sardaar Ji 3, a film featuring Pakistani actor Hania Aamir. According to Mika, he noticed that Diljit had spoken about the film and Hania, while not mentioning his other co-star Neeru Bajwa.
“Why don’t you promote Bollywood, and then say you don’t want Bollywood? You work in Bollywood,” Mika said.
At the same time, Mika strongly defended Diljit as he faced disruption from pro-Khalistan protesters at his concert and threats from Khalistani group. “I am with him. He is our Sardar boy. I don’t think he should be given this kind of problem. He is making our country proud and taking Punjabi music to the next level,” Mika said.
Mika also recalled his earlier interactions with Diljit. He said Diljit had used his studio in Mumbai when he needed a place for emergency recordings. The singer added that he does not see Diljit as a rival and has no reason to be jealous of his success.
“I am very proud of him,” Mika reiterated, praising Diljit for taking Punjabi music to a wider audience.
