Kataka: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Vinaytosh Mishra on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting with district Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Range Inspector Generals (IGs)/Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) via video conferencing at the State Police Headquarters in Kataka.
Several important issues including students’ union election, festival season security, women’s safety, cybercrime control, and the ongoing “Nishamukta Odisha Abhiyan” (Drug-Free Odisha Campaign) were discussed during the meeting.
Regarding student union elections, the DGP stated that since students constitute a sensitive group, it is essential for the police to maintain regular and personal contact with them. He directed Officers-in-Charge (OICs) and SDPOs to hold meetings with student leaders and ensure coordination for a peaceful election.
He emphasized the need to prevent the entry of non-students and anti-social elements into college campuses, keep a watch on hostels and messes, and maintain regular communication with the students.
The DGP also advised against the unnecessary deployment of police forces unless there was a likelihood of violence. Furthermore, he instructed that a close watch be kept on student feasts and other such gatherings.
Mishra also advised holding meetings among the District Collector, SP, Sub-Collector, and college principals to ensure coordination during the election period. He also emphasized the need for special vigilance due to the potential for violence following the announcement of election results.

Taking a serious view of the recent crime against a young woman in Bhubaneswar, he directed that a close watch be kept on women’s safety measures across the state and that stringent legal action be taken against the accused.
The DGP emphasized the need for strict action against habitual and organized criminals as part of crime control efforts, as well as the importance of regular raids and checks against illegal activities, including enforcement of the NDPS Act.
The DGP directed that the ‘Drug-free Odisha’ campaign be further strengthened and that stern measures be taken against the smuggling of narcotics and criminal networks. He also instructed that appropriate steps be taken to destroy illegal cannabis cultivation under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
