Telangana Power Generation Corporation (TGGENCO) has secured a vital operational reprieve in eastern India after the Angul district administration in Odisha expanded night-time road transit hours for transporting coal from the Naini coal block to railheads.

Under the revised directive, trucks carrying mined coal from the Naini deposit to the nearby railway siding can now operate for six hours nightly, running from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The district authorities had previously restricted vehicle movement to a tight four-hour corridor between midnight and 4:00 a.m.

The two-hour extension came through following direct inter-state negotiations on Monday, when top Telangana power utility executives met with the Angul district collector. The delegation representing TGGENCO included Chairman and Managing Director Dr. S. Harish alongside Director (Coal and Logistics) B. Nagya.

Fuel from the Odisha-based mine plays a pivotal role in powering Telangana’s energy infrastructure, feeding the boilers at the Yadadri Thermal Power Station. While dispatches to the Yadadri facility have been actively underway since August 2026, the utility encountered logistical bottlenecks under the earlier midnight-to-4:00 a.m. constraint, which made it impossible to evacuate the targeted volumes by road.

According to an official briefing from TGGENCO, the widened six-hour schedule will ease road congestion, accelerate transfer rates to railway sidings, and ensure the state utility meets its requisite fuel supply quotas.
