NEET UG re-exam test begins for nearly 23 lakh candidates

New-Delhi: Nearly 23 lakh medical aspirants are appearing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) re-exam today and the finally the exam began at 2 pm under heightened security measures.

The re-test was done after the cancellation of the original examination which was held on May 3 following allegations of question paper leak.

The re-test is being held from 2 pm to 5.15 pm. Candidates with disabilities, who are eligible for compensatory time, will be allowed time till 6.20 pm.

The test is being conducted at 5,440 centres across 551 cities in India, along with 14 centres overseas. Candidates appeared for the test in English and 12 Indian languages.

The National Testing Agency had asked students to carry their admit card, a valid photo ID and two passport-size photographs and report to their centres between 11 am and 1.30 pm.

To ensure transparency and prevent malpractice, the NTA put in place extensive security arrangements. More than 95,000 examination rooms were brought under CCTV surveillance. Officials said 1,38,560 cameras had been installed, with live monitoring taking place at the national, state and ministry levels. In addition, 51,311 jammers were deployed to prevent electronic cheating.
