New Delhi: India batter Harmanpreet Kaur scripted history on Sunday by overtaking former captain Mithali Raj in the list of Indian cricketers with most centuries in Women’s One Day Internationals (ODIs).

Harmanpreet hit her eighth ODI century in the second game against Zimbabwe in Vadodara, overtaking second place Smriti Mandhana, who has 14 centuries to her name.

Harmanpreet scored a brilliant 126 off 121 balls with 15 fours to bail out India when they faced an early batting collapse.

They squandered Mandhana and Verma cheaply and were 19/2 when the captain joined Pratika Rawal. Rawal, who scored 61 off 67 balls, and Harmanpreet added 124 runs for the third wicket.

At this stage, Harmanpreet went beyond Mithali Raj’s record of seven centuries in her one-day international career.

“The achievement also reiterated the senior batter’s consistency and mental alertness under pressure.

Punam Raut, Jemimah Rodrigues and Pratika Rawal all have three ODI hundreds apiece for India, but Harmanpreet’s latest feat only enhances her standing in the pantheon of the country’s finest women’s cricketers.
