Singapore: In the interest of safeguarding the nation’s racial harmony, the government of Singapore has demanded the removal of certain pieces of online content from several social media sites on the grounds that these sites are accused of spreading hate against Indians.

As per reports, the authorities specified that a portion of these posts contained offensive text and narrative, intended to incite hatred and discord between ethnic groups.

This kind of posting, authorities claimed, portrays Indians and their migrant workers in a negative light.

A section of these posts contained pictures of Indians and their migrant workers, resulting in what officials deemed an onslaught of prejudice against the community and the country as a whole.

This has come about after a number of individuals had raised concerns about the existence of these posts targeting Indians and migrants online.

The government has now advised social media companies like X, YouTube and Facebook that this content should not be made accessible to its local citizens.

“The digital space demands freedom of speech. However, this freedom does not extend to the promotion of racial antagonism and hate speech”, claimed the authorities. The administration went on to declare that the security of all citizens of Singapore, and their togetherness, remains a prime concern.

To counter any form of hateful content on the internet and to curb the usage of online sites for practicing racism, this blocking of content is among a number of measures implemented by Singapore.

This has sent a stern warning that racist material targeting a particular race or community based on origin and ethnicity will not be tolerated in Singapore.
