Seragada: Leader of Opposition and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik on Saturday visited flood-affected areas of Ganjam district to meet distressed farmers and assess the damage caused by Cyclone Arnab and the subsequent floods.
His visit to Seragada witnessed a massive gathering, with thousands of people turning up to catch a glimpse of their leader and share their grievances.
After reaching Seragada, Naveen interacted with flood-affected farmers who narrated their hardships and showed him damaged paddy crops. The sight of completely destroyed paddy stalks, which had once promised a good harvest, moved the former Chief Minister emotionally.
Hundreds of farmers have suffered extensive crop losses as floodwaters inundated agricultural fields, destroying their standing paddy crops. For many farming families, the damage has resulted in the loss of an entire season’s income and livelihood.
Deeply touched by the plight of the farmers, Naveen patiently listened to their concerns and assured them of all possible assistance. He also enquired about the extent of crop damage and the difficulties faced by people in the affected areas.

Cyclone Arnab and the subsequent devastating floods have caused widespread damage across several parts of Ganjam district. Agricultural fields have remained submerged, resulting in significant crop losses and severely affecting the livelihoods of thousands of farmers. Floodwaters have also damaged houses, roads and other essential infrastructure.
During his tour, Naveen reviewed the post-flood situation and assessed the progress of relief, rehabilitation and restoration activities. He is also gathering information on the assistance being provided to affected families, the extent of agricultural losses and the pace of recovery work.
His visit has drawn considerable attention in the flood-hit areas, as residents expect stronger support and timely compensation for their losses. Naveen is scheduled to return to Bhubaneswar by around 4:10 PM after completing his tour.
The visit is being seen as an important opportunity for flood-affected farmers and residents to directly communicate their concerns and seek support for rebuilding their lives and livelihoods.
