New Delhi: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has suspended advocate Samarth Singh from legal practice with immediate effect in connection with the Twisha Sharma death case, which has drawn widespread public attention.

Twisha Sharma, a former model and corporate professional from Noida, was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area earlier this month, just a few months after her marriage to Samarth Singh. Her family has alleged dowry harassment and mental abuse after marriage.

The BCI said the suspension was issued due to the serious allegations against Samarth Singh and concerns regarding his conduct during the investigation. Reports stated that the council felt allowing him to continue practising law while facing such allegations could affect the dignity of the legal profession.

BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra reportedly said there was prima facie material against Samarth Singh and also pointed to allegations that he was not cooperating fully with the investigation.

The case has become a major talking point across the country, partly because Samarth Singh is a practising lawyer and the son of retired judge Giribala Singh. Twisha’s family has demanded a fair investigation and raised concerns over possible influence in the case.

Meanwhile, Samarth Singh appeared before a court in Jabalpur on Friday after remaining untraceable for several days following Twisha’s death. He was later taken into custody by police.

The Madhya Pradesh government has also recommended handing over the case to the CBI for a more detailed investigation.
