Puri: Online registration for the free Habishyali scheme begins in Puri, allowing devotees planning to observe the Kartika Brata in the holy city. They can apply through the Odisha government’s e-District portal.
Applications can be submitted through edistrict.odisha.gov.in and will remain open until the designated number of beneficiaries is reached. This year, the Kartika Brata will be observed from October 26 to November 24.
The Odisha government has made arrangements to accommodate around 2,500 Habishyalis from 30 districts in Puri. Accommodation has been arranged at Brundaban Niwas, the Municipal Kalyan Mandap and the Railway Tourist Complex.
As part of the annual arrangements, authorities have made provisions for the devotees’ stay, organised darshan of Lord Jagannath, deployment of volunteers, bhajan-kirtan and religious rituals.

Puri is expected to witness a surge in religious activity during the holy month of Kartika, with Habishyalis staying in the city to observe the month-long religious rituals. Devotees observing the Brata traditionally wake up early, take a holy dip at the Panchatirtha ponds and offer worship to Rai Damodar at the Tulasi Chaura.
They will also partake in traditional Habisha meals at designated Habishyali centres and spend time performing religious rituals and listening to recitations from Hindu scriptures.
With a large number of devotees expected to visit the Shree Jagannath Temple during Kartika month, special arrangements have been made for the Habishyalis. They will be transported to the temple in dedicated buses to facilitate an organised darshan of Lord Jagannath in his Radha Damodar Besha.
Keeping the anticipated rush in mind, special barricading will also be put up near the Shree Jagannath Temple office to regulate the movement of devotees and ensure smooth darshan.
