Mumbai: In a shocking incident reported from Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district, around 82 students at a government-run ashram school were allegedly given half-bald haircuts as punishment for playing while they were waiting for a haircut.

The incident reportedly took place on Saturday at a government secondary ashram school in Jambhulghat, located in Chimur taluka of Chandrapur district.

According to reports, a haircut session was underway at the school when some students began playing while waiting for their turn. Their behaviour allegedly angered the school superintendent, who is accused of instructing the barber to cut only half of the students’ hair as a form of punishment.

The unusual disciplinary action reportedly left the students with partially shaved heads, sparking concern over the manner in which discipline was enforced at the residential school.

The incident sparked concern among parents after photographs of the students surfaced.

After the pictures emerged, officials from a higher office reportedly contacted the school and directed that the students hair be made uniform.

The haircuts were then carried out again late at night. According to reports, the process began around 11 pm while some students were preparing to sleep and continued until around 4 am on Sunday.

However, school principal Prashant Giri has issued a show-cause notice to the superintendent over the incident.
