The Odisha State Cabinet gave go-ahead for a turnkey tender to build a modern Women Workers Hostel in the Kalibeti Industrial Area, Khordha district. Chief Secretary Anu Garg spoke to the media mentioning this hostel is a priority for the government to support working women while pushing Odisha’s drive to become a top textile and apparel producer in India.

The mega project has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹210.36 crore and will be entirely funded under the Scheme for Apparel and Technical Textiles in Odisha (SASCI) and IDCO will execute it. Construction is strictly locked into a 24-month window, so by mid-2028, this place should be fully functional.

When finished, the hostel will offer modern accommodation for about 4,000 women workers. The government plans to add solid social and community infrastructure. The whole idea is to make life, comfort, and convenience way better for women working in the area.

Kalibeti Industrial Estate, where the hostel’s going up, is already growing fast because of big investments from companies like MAS Holdings, EPIC, and Indian Stitches. These businesses are expected to create over 20,000 jobs nearby in the next few years. Since women make up nearly 65% to 70% of the textile workforce globally, the state saw how urgent it was to set up reliable, secure housing for them as industries expand.

Officials say that it is a strategic location. Having quality accommodation near the factories means women won’t waste time commuting, can save money on transport, and factories might see lower employee turnover. Plus, it makes for a safer place to live.
