Weather today: Heavy rain disrupts flights, triggers flood alert across India

New Delhi: Heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life of people as flights have been halted; flood alerts are being triggered, killing people.

The IMD has predicted heavy rain in isolated parts of Coimbatore and the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu on Monday.

Delhi saw hot and humid weather on Monday as the IMD issued an orange alert, predicting a cloudy sky with moderate rain in the capital.

As per reports, Kerala is alerted for floods and landslides while Odisha and Himachal to face heavy rainfall.

Due to rainfall one 63-year-old man died after tree fell on him in Mumbai yesterday.

“The low pressure area over Bay of Bengal has now concentrated into a depression and likely to cross north Odisha coast in next 24 hours,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over East India.

The worst affected was Mumbai as overnight showers and high winds caused the airport to stop services for an hour at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

Four IndiGo flights cancelled.13 flights were diverted. Arriving flights will delayed. More than 90 per cent of departures have delayed by over an hour. Nearly 50% of arrivals were also delayed.

The IMD continued its red alert as several areas recorded over 200 mm of rain, with some areas getting close to 300 mm in 24 hours.
