Washington: US President Donald Trump has announced Stephen Miller as White House Chief of Staff after the Republican Party’s defeat in the midterm elections.
Stephen Miller replaces Susie Wiles in this position. The appointment will take effect on Monday, November 9, 2026.
Trump announced the decision in a post on his Truth Social platform, describing Miller as one of his most trusted advisers. He also thanked Wiles for her service, saying she would move to the Trump Political Operation.
Susie Wiles was the White House Chief of Staff, the first woman to hold the position, and was installed after Trump’s 2024 election win.

His new role is particularly politically sensitive for the president, as Republicans take control of Congress and Democrats gear up to scrutinize the administration more closely.
The leadership change signals a shift in the White House’s top management as Trump prepares to navigate the political consequences of the midterm results.
Miller’s elevation is also expected to draw attention to the administration’s policy priorities and its approach towards a Democratic-led Congress.
