The updates include permanent message pinning, sharing chat history with existing members, group-specific Status updates, and a new filter for mentions and replies.

Here is a look at the new features:

  1. Pin Messages Indefinitely

WhatsApp is introducing an option that allows users to keep important messages pinned at the top of group chats without setting an expiry date.

Previously, users could pin messages for 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. The new option can help groups keep important announcements, event details, and rules easily accessible.

  1. Share Message History After Someone Joins

Users will now be able to share recent group chat messages with someone even after they have joined the group. This can be done by tapping the name of the newly added member in the conversation. WhatsApp says the shared messages will remain protected by end-to-end encryption.

  1. Group-Specific Status Updates

The new Group Status feature will allow members to share photos, videos, and updates exclusively with a particular group instead of their wider contact list. Other members will be able to view, react to, and add their own updates. Like regular WhatsApp Status posts, these updates will disappear after 24 hours.

  1. New Mentions and Replies Filter

WhatsApp is also introducing a filter that will help users find unread group conversations where they have been mentioned or received a direct reply.

The filter will also include messages using the @all mention, making it easier to identify important conversations without scrolling through multiple chats.

The four features were announced through WhatsApp’s official blog on October 29. They are being rolled out gradually to Android and iOS users, meaning they may not appear on every account immediately. Users are advised to keep their WhatsApp applications updated to receive the latest features.
