Bhubaneswar: The Bay of Bengal may witness a developing weather system in the last week of October, with Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal being closely monitored for possible impacts according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

As per reports, an upper-air cyclonic circulation near the Andaman Sea is likely to trigger a low-pressure area over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on October 23. The system may intensify over the following three days, added IMD. However, its development into a cyclone is not yet confirmed.

International weather expert Jason Nicholls has also indicated the possibility of a cyclone forming over the Bay of Bengal. He has flagged October 27–29 as a period to watch for potential impacts along the coasts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. However, no specific landfall location or wind speed has been confirmed.

Weather models, including those from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), indicate a possible movement towards the Andhra Pradesh coast around October 28. Forecast maps on Windy have also shown a potential system moving towards the coast, but its track and intensity remain uncertain.

According to Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre head Manorama Mohanty, most parts of Odisha may experience dry weather until October 25, while rainfall could increase in some areas around October 27.

The impact on Odisha will depend on the system’s eventual track and intensity. Coastal districts and parts of southern Odisha could experience rain and strong winds if the system moves closer to the state.

As of now, there is no official confirmation that a cyclone will form or make landfall in Odisha. Forecast models may change as the system develops, and the IMD’s latest updates will be crucial in determining its likely path and potential impact.
