Bhubaneswar: Security has been tightened across the Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Kataka for Diwali celebrations today.
Crowd management, traffic regulation, prevention of illegal firecracker sales and fire safety have been given special attention.
As per the guidelines issued by the State Pollution Control Board, firecrackers can be burst only between 7 PM and 9 PM. Only approved green crackers are permitted during this two-hour window. Violations will invite action as per rules.
In Bhubaneswar, 27 sections of police force are deployed on Diwali night. Security is strengthened across all 24 police station areas. Police personnel will also be stationed at 14 important traffic junctions, while mobile and PCR patrols will remain active.
The city has issued licences for 442 temporary firecracker shops. Two special teams have been formed to check illegal firecracker sales. Between October 20 and November 6, police seized illegal firecrackers worth around Rs 15 lakh and registered eight cases.
Meanwhile, Kataka has also made extensive security arrangements for Diwali. According to Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari, 30 platoons of police force will be deployed for Diwal and around 30 PCR vehicles will also remain on patrol.

Police have conducted raids at 14 locations over complaints of illegal firecracker sales. Considering the densely populated areas and narrow lanes in Kataka, people have been advised against using dangerous firecrackers such as rockets.
Bursting firecrackers is prohibited near hospitals, educational institutions, courts and other silent zones. People have also been urged to avoid bursting crackers on crowded roads, near shops and in fire-prone areas.
Police have further advised buyers to check the green crackers logo and QR code before purchasing firecrackers. In case of fire or any other emergency, people can dial 112 for assistance.
