Mines Deputy Director caught taking ₹2 lakh bribe in Odisha vigilance trap

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance caught Satyajit Raut, Deputy Director of the Mines and Geology Department, Jeypore, while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a leaseholder on Tuesday night.
Vigilance officials seized a bribe amount of Rs 2 lakh from the accused, and during searches at his house, Rs 2,90,000 in cash was recovered.
With this, a total of Rs 4,90,000 has been seized.
Satyajit Raut, the deputy director, had demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a leaseholder for extending his lease and, further, to issue a notification of further auctions.

Based on the complaint, a vigilance trap was set up, and the accused was nabbed while accepting the bribe.
According to reports, three places linked to him were searched by the non-income-generating asset section, and Rs 2,90,000 was recovered from his residential house in Rayagada.
In this connection, a case has been registered at Koraput Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and a further investigation is underway.
