India gifts five peacocks to UN in Geneva, includes one rare white bird

New Delhi: India has come up and gifted five peacocks including one rare white bird to Geneva at the United Nations office situated in Switzerland. The other four peacocks are blue peacocks.

India’s UN representative Arindam Bagchi handed over the birds to UN Geneva chief Tatiana Valovaya.

This comes after Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi gifted two peacocks from the Delhi Zoo to the UN in Geneva in the year 1981.

As per reports, the peacocks that are sent as a gift will be staying in a temporary enclosure for three months and then be left free in Ariana Park, where the UN headquarters is located.

The donation highlights India’s national bird, cultural heritage and commitment to protecting biodiversity.
