Odisha weather today: Orange alert issued for intense rainfall in 10 districts

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued heavy rainfall warning across Odisha for today that is on Thursday. A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal near the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast under the influence of an active cyclonic circulation.
The low-pressure area is likely to intensify into a depression soon then it will deepen further while moving towards North-West direction. The depression is expected to bring very heavy rainfall to northern and southern Odisha.
Meanwhile, the low pressure is predicted to bring heavy rainfall across the northern Odisha regions today. The Meteorological Department has issued red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across Keonjhar and orange alert for 10 other districts today.
Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and some other districts are also likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning.

In regions like Baleswar, Jajpur, Kataka, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Anugola, Dhenkanal, and Mayurbhanj is predicted to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall today.
Several districts of southern and western Odisha are likely to receive isolated rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Thunderstorms with lightning are also likely to be witnessed at various places across the state.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said that the coastal and adjoining areas will experience wind speeds of up to 40 to 50kmph till August 14. The wind speed may reach up to 60kmph in between.
The fishermen have been warned to not venture into the sea during till August 14.
