Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik has strongly criticized the BJP-led Odisha Government over the alleged delay in disbursing social security pensions, claiming that lakhs of poor, elderly and vulnerable beneficiaries have been deprived of crucial financial support for the past three months.

Expressing concern over the situation, Naveen Patnaik said social security pensions have reportedly remained unpaid for three months, leaving lakhs of economically disadvantaged people in distress. He alleged that many beneficiaries who depend on these pensions for their daily survival are facing severe hardships.

The former Chief Minister has stated that the delay has had serious humanitarian consequences. According to him, some beneficiaries are unable to purchase essential medicines for their ailments, while others are struggling to meet basic nutritional needs. He further alleged that reports have emerged of individuals losing their lives amid the ongoing pension crisis.

Targeting the ruling BJP, Naveen Patnaik accused the party of making promises during the elections to increase pension amounts in order to secure votes. He questioned the government’s performance, stating that while it had promised enhanced benefits, it is now allegedly struggling to disburse even the existing pension payments.

Naveen Patnaik urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to intervene immediately and ensure the prompt release of pending pensions. He called on the government to prevent further suffering among beneficiaries and uphold its responsibility of providing social security support to the state’s most vulnerable citizens.
